Investigation

Investigations is responsible for investigating serious crimes which require an extended number of hours to complete. Investigators are on call 24 hours a day and work alternating shifts to ensure coverage while supporting patrol officers when necessary. Investigations is also responsible for maintaining all evidence and found property. Investigators are called in to assist patrol officers with crime scene investigations and the collection of evidence. If the criminal investigation is one which is more serious and requires special training and may require extended hours of follow up to complete investigators will assume the case relieving the road officers to return to fulfill their assigned duties. Often crimes cross jurisdictions and require collaborative efforts to bring a successful close to some cases. They also handle a wide range of misdemeanor crimes and special investigative assignments as well as conduct internal investigations and background investigations as assigned by the Chief of Police.

Investigators work 40 hours a week, alternating weekends and provide an on duty or on call Criminal Investigators seven days a week.
