Communications & RecordThe Atlantic Beach Police Departments Communications Center is operational twenty-four hours a day and processes routine and emergency telephone calls and personal requests for assistance on multiple lines concerning crimes, fires, public utilities, or general information. Communications Officers obtain needed information concerning nature of the call for service and dispatches appropriate personnel. Our 911 center has also been dedicated as the backup communications center for Carteret County Communications. We handle calls for services or transfer other emergency and non-emergency calls to the appropriate 911 center. We coordinate and communicate customer service needs for the towns Police, Fire, EMS and Public Works Departments. The center assists visitors and town citizens with information, procedures, obtaining copies reports and other needs. Our center operates Division of Criminal Information (DCI) terminal to send and receive messages and research information regarding criminal histories, vehicle identification, and crimes. Communication Officers maintains the departments’ computer database, communications logs and reports as well as a variety of manual logs. We provide information to the public over the telephone and in person concerning a variety of town services. During 2007 the communications center handled an average of 176 calls for service per day and a total 2,837 Emergency 911 calls for the year.
